The conference „Acoustic in linguistics – linguistics in acoustic” will be held from 25th to 25th June 2014 in Warsaw, at the Faculty of Polish Studies, Warsaw University (Krakowskie Przedmieście 26/28). The conference fee is 400 PLN.

The conference seeks to explore the diverse aspects of using acoustic methods to study  phonetic variety, both in the standard language and in dialects. Speech is a fundamental human activity: it runs across biology, medicine, psychology, sociology, anthropology and ecology. It is central to the organization and the development of human health, personality and intelligence. Acoustic studies of standard languages demonstrate a significant potential of the methodology proposed as the theme of the conference. However, these studies require the involvement of interdisciplinary research teams including acousticians, linguists, and statisticians. Quite naturally, linguistics and engineering sciences play a central role in the scientific areas covered by the conference such as speech production and perception, phonetics and phonology, speech analysis and synthesis, speech and speaker recognition, acoustic databases. But many other disciplines provide additional viewpoints to speech as the keystone of communication, cognition and interaction in human societies and play an important part in research progress on topics such as spoken language acquisition or speech and hearing disorders. Therefore, the conference organizers encourage submissions from representatives of other disciplines who apply acoustic methods in their studies on speech. We hope that the conference theme is broad enough to inspire many researchers to participate in the event, and share the results of their analyses.
